Non-contact Air-coupled Velocity Measurements in Planar Samples

چکیده
Non-contact air-coupled technique has been applied to measure ultrasonic velocities in two planar samples, Plexiglas and mortar. Longitudinal waves and mode-converted shear velocities were obtained by three approaches. The obtained velocities were compared with that measured by contact method. The results demonstrate that non-contact air-coupled technique has great potential for the comparatively accurate measurement of velocity in ‘difficult’ materials, such as mortar.

Air-coupled microphone measurements of guided waves in concrete plates
Quality control and quality assurance of pavements is today primarily based on core samples. Air void content and pavement thickness are parameters that are evaluated. However, no parameter connected to the stiffness is evaluated. There is a need for fast and reliable test methods that are truly non-destructive in order to achieve an effective quality control and quality assurance of pavements....

Combining the impact-echo (IE) method with air-coupled sensors has high potential to implement an efficient non-destructive testing system for concrete structures. By using microphones as sensors air-coupled IE offers significant advantages in terms of equipment costs and acquisition speed since no direct coupling of delicate and expensive contact-transducers is necessary. However, problems rel...

A modified Planar Doppler Velocimetry (PDV) technique, two frequency PDV (2-PDV), is described that allows measurements of the velocity field over a plane defined by a laser light sheet using sequential illumination of the flow with two closely separated (~1GHz) frequencies of laser light. This allows a common-path imaging head to be used containing a single CCD camera instead of the usual cam...

In this thesis, nondestructive surface wave measurements are presented for characterization of dynamic modulus and layer thickness on different pavements and cement concrete slabs. Air-coupled microphones enable rapid data acquisition without physical contact with the pavement surface. Quality control of asphalt concrete pavements is crucial to verify the specified properties and to prevent pre...
متن کاملSingle camera 3D planar Doppler velocity measurements using imaging fibre bundles
Two frequency planar Doppler Velocimetry (2ν-PDV) is a modification of the Planar Doppler Velocimetry (PDV) method that allows velocity measurements to be made, quickly and non intrusively, across a plane defined by a laser light sheet. In 2ν-PDV the flow is illuminated sequentially with two optical frequencies, separated by about 700MHz. A single CCD viewing through an iodine absorption cell i...
